In the context of false news, the traditional algorithm model has been criticized and questioned by public opinion. Manual editing mode is becoming a new trend.

Tencent Technology News reading has always been an important part of Internet services, but in the past, cooperation between news media and online platforms has been unpleasant, and media complaints have not received a fair return.

According to the latest news from foreign media, US social networking giant Facebook announced on Friday that it will launch a new "Facebook News" service, which is a new part of the social networking platform function (a label of APP), which will show users personalized news reports.

Facebook said that news services will be available soon, but in batches, some users will not see it immediately.

The background of this product launch is that Facebook is trying to curb the viral spread of fake news on the platform. Facebook was criticized by public opinion in 2016 because a former employee told tech media that the company often suppresses news stories of interest to conservative readers in its "trend" news section.

Facebook denied the allegations but eventually canceled the feature in 2018. Recently, CEO Mark Zuckerberg was criticized for Facebook’s policy of allowing political advertisements with false information to appear on the site.

The company has been developing Facebook news projects for several months. According to a US financial media report, it may pay millions of dollars in licensing fees to news publishers to publish their reports on Facebook.

According to a media report, for membership-based publications, users can read a portion of the reports provided to Facebook for free, but if they read more news on the media, they must pay.

The company launched the service in a public event in New York on Friday. On the same day, News Corp. CEO Robert Thomson will appear on the podium with Zuckerberg.

In the past, Thomson and News Corp. Chairman Rupert Murdoch called online giants like Facebook and Google to pay for news content, just as cable providers pay-TV stations and broadcast channels.

Murdoch said that the separation of advertising into such a model is unfair to the media.

Facebook news services will include local coverage in major cities such as New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago.

Facebook News will integrate news media including News Corp.'s Wall Street Journal, Amazon's Jeff Besos's Washington Post, Gannett's USA Today, Buzzfeed, and NBC Universal's Media and so on.

In the past, there was a lot of news in the information flow of the Facebook platform, but it was generally selected by algorithms. This model could not avoid the spread of fake news and fake information. In contrast, the stories in "Facebook News" will be selected by a group of editors.

“This team is independent and not subject to editorial intervention by anyone in the company,” Facebook said. “They will choose news reports based on open guidelines, and you can learn about them on the official website.”

In the past years, news content has been available on the Facebook platform, but Facebook has not paid for this news. The news media provides content for free and then gets a certain percentage of advertising share. However, after some time, the media found that the advertising provided by Facebook did not reach the expected level, which made them very disappointed. Previously, a large number of media outlets had withdrawn from Facebook's cooperation and instead earned revenue through their software or website, membership, and other models.

Also, in the context of fake news, the traditional algorithm model has been criticized and questioned by public opinion. Manual editing mode is becoming a new trend. Previously, Apple also launched its news client, which recruited a large number of traditional media editors to provide carefully selected news. This model is also very similar to the process of traditional media.

Earlier this year, Facebook publicly stated that it has begun recruiting editorial teams to prepare new news services, but it is still unknown how many editors have been recruited so far.
